August 5, 2007

Colleen is now 10 months old and is changing and growing so much.  Just in the last couple of days, she has started pushing her walking toy around (check out the videos from the Colleen Pics page).  She has three teeth and it looks like a fourth one is working is way in!  She is developing her own little personality and smiles almost all the time!  Check out some new pics of her in the 9-10 month gallery and even new pics of her in the Colleen Pics gallery!

July 3, 2007

Colleen had her 9 month check-up today and she is doing great!  She weighs 18 lbs, 5 oz and is 28 3/4" long.  The doctor saw her teeth and said she was doing great overall.  Her next check-up is not until 1 year now!  Wow how time flies!

June 30, 3007

Colleen now has TWO teeth!  She has not sat still long enough for me to get a picture yet, but I am working on it!Also, Colleen was moved to the next room at her daycare.  She is now in the 9 month - 18 month old class and doing well so far.  She is the ONLY girl in the room so far, so that means there are around 8 boys and her!!  Poor Colleen!  Colleen has her 9 month check up on July 3, so we will get you updated with her "specs" after her appointment.

June 16, 2007

Well, not too much to update except Colleen's first tooth has broken through the gums now!!  We can feel this little sharp edge on her gums and we can see just a little bit poking through.  As soon as we can get some pics of it, I will get them on here.

Colleen also had her first trip to Galveston this week.  Daddy couldn't go, so Nana went to help watch Colleen and took LOTS of pictures!  You can check them out in the Photo Gallery.

I have also taken pictures of Colleen with my cell phone over the past few months and finally got them downloaded to the computer, so feel free to check out some of the older galleries, in particular the 6-7 Months and 7-8 Months galleries.

May 29, 2007

Colleen is crawling around like crazy now and starting to pull up on things!  She is getting rather quick at this crawling thing, as you can see from the video (approximately 4 megabytes in size).  She is eating really good.  The ladies at the daycare said the love feeding Colleen because she loves to eat!

I also put a another video of Colleen in her jumperoo (approximately 3 megabytes in size) on the site.  It is longer and it captures more of her actually jumping and having a good time!

We also found out today that Colleen has her first ear infection.  She is doing fairly well with it until she gets really tired!

May 8, 2007

Not much to really update!  Colleen is still doing great with foods and we are getting ready to move her up to 2nd stage foods!  She really likes all veggies except green beans so far - so she likes more than her momma already!  She is doing great in her high-chair as well.  She is also really trying to crawl.  You will see in some of the pictures that she is getting up on all fours, but she just hasn't made that move on all fours yet - BUT she is working on it!

Also, check out our latest website feature - a video of Colleen in her jumperoo!  It was my first time to try to video thing for the web, so it is really short, but I expect to get more on here soon.

April 10, 2007

Wow, it's hard to believe Colleen is 6 months old already!  At her 6 month check-up, she weighed a little over 16 lbs, and was 26" long.  We could not get an exact reading of her weight because she was wiggling too much on the scales!  She is doing great healthwise and the doctor says she is just as good as it gets!  We have started on her solid baby foods, so enjoy those pictures in the Photo Gallery!  She loves her carrots!  She has really started becoming more and more mobile and is already trying to crawl on her back and her belly.  She is also LOVING her jumperoo more and more everyday now.  She is going to jump the springs out of that thing before too long!  Her next check-up will be at 9 months, but I will update the site long before that!

Cooper is also doing great!  He is now one month old and becoming a really alert little person!  You can check pictures of him out at www.thebaggets.com.

Lillie is also progressing very well at home.  She now weighs well over 6 lbs and gets bigger and bigger each day.  Amanda is really enjoying her little Lillie at home.  Also, for those of you that think Colleen looks like her daddy, Lillie really looks like her daddy Damon!

March 14, 2007

Colleen is still awesome and has a few new tricks up her sleeve!  She has started taking the bottle away from mommy and daddy and trying to feed herself.  Only problem is, she can't hold the bottle up enough to get the food out!  She will get there soon - too soon probably!  Also, she has started trying to scoot.  Mommy and Daddy know our hands are going to be full soon chasing her around and poor Buster and Buttons - they better plan on running away alot!

Although Cooper had a little jaundice scare after birth, he is back at home and doing great!  Check out the picture of him in Misc. Pictures.

Also, Lillie came home this past Monday with no monitors!  Mom and dad are doing well and adjusting!  I will get pictures of her on here soon.

March 8, 2007

Well, Colleen is not 5 months old - WOW!  Time flies when you are having fun!  She is really getting her personality and Russell and I are so lucky to have such a happy baby who smiles and laughs ALOT!  There is not much new news on our end, but we do have some other great news to share!

First, COOPER HAS ARRIVED!  He joined the world on March 7, 2007 at 11:59 AM, weighed 6 lbs, 7 ozs., and was 19" long.  Once I get a good picture of him, I will post it.

Also, Lillie gets to come home on Monday, March 12, 2007 - bearing there are no complications between now and then.  She is now taking all eight feedings via a bottle and just doing fabulous!  Amanda said she didn't think she would come home so soon and is not quite sure they are ready!

February 28, 2007

Well, last week, Colleen got the flu - so she didn't go to day care for a few days to stay home and get better!  She recovered rather quickly and is back to her old self!  She also rolled for the first time last week and then today - we couldn't stop her from rolling over.  She would roll to her belly and get mad because she was on her belly, so we would roll her back over and she would roll over again.  Russell and I realized that we have our hands really full now!!

Also, Russell had his state indoor tourney this past weekend (check out Archery News for more information on that) and there was someone taking pictures at the tourney.  Well, needless to say that camera was attracted to Colleen!  I have place some of the pics taken in her Photo Album.

Kristin is scheduled to be induced next Wednesday, March 7 - so let's pray for a smooth delivery for little Cooper.  Also, Lillie Kate is doing amazing these days.  She is now over 4 lbs and is no longer on oxygen.  She has also been moved to a big girl nursery bed.

February 17, 2007

Colleen is now 4 1/2 months old.  She had her 4 month check-up at the beginning of the month and weighed 14 lbs and 4 ozs and was 25 1/2" long.  The doctor said she looks great and is growing perfectly.  I have updated her Photo Gallery with some new pictures.

Kristin is progressing quite well and has less than 4 weeks left until Cooper arrives.  Her doctor is really watching her blood pressure now and may have to deliver a little early is her blood pressure can't get under control.  You can check Cooper and Kristin out at Kristin's website.

My co-worker, Amanda Burris and her baby Lillie Kate, are also progressing very well.  Lillie now weighs over 3 lbs and gains weight every day.  She can now wear little clothes and has been moved to a new room because of her progression.  Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers as Lillie still has a little way to go!

January 22, 2007

Well, I am happy to report that Colleen's kidney tests came back GREAT!!  The tests showed no more blockage or obstruction and just a minor touch of fluid retention.  We no longer have to give her antibiotics everyday and we do not go back for another ultrasound for three months.  What a relief!

Colleen is doing great though, just growing like a little weed and changing so fast - we can hardly keep up!  Check out all the new pics in the Colleen Pics photo gallery!

Karen Barton (Kristin's sister) and I recently threw a shower for Kristin and Cooper.  The shower went really well and Cooper is getting all fixed up.  I am also happy to report that little Lillie is doing well and at three weeks was up to 2 lbs, 3 ozs and taking breast milk well.  Colleen can't wait for Lillie to come home to have a new playmate.

January 9, 2007

Well, Colleen had a great first Christmas and I am sure can't wait until the next one!  Mom has also started back to work on January 3 and boy was it tough.  She has still not start daycare though.  Thanks to Nana, Gran, and Daddy, she gets to stay at home another month and will start daycare on February 1.  She has her tests for her kidneys on January 11, so we will let you know how those go.

Kristin had another checkup and at 29 weeks, Cooper weighed 3 lbs and her blood pressure has leveled out.  Thank goodness.

Also, our friends Amanda and Damon Burris delivered their bundle of joy much earlier than expected.  Lillie Kate joined the world on December 28, 2006 - 3 months ahead of schedule.  She weighed 1 lb, 14 oz and was 14" long.  She is doing well considering the circumstances and is expected to stay in the hospital until March or April.

December 20, 2006

Colleen had her two month check-up on December 10 and she weighed 11 lbs, 4.5 ozs!  Our little munchkin is growing up a storm!  The doctor was pleased with her growth and health.  She had to have her first round of multiple vaccines and she did not like that too well.

Her next set of ultrasounds will be January 11, 2007 at Texas Children's Hospital in downtown Houston.  Hopefully, we will be able to find out what the blockage or obstruction is.

Also, my friend Kristin has found out she is having a little boy - his name will be Cooper.  Her website is www.thebaggetts.com if you are interested in checking him out.  Another friend that I work with at the college who is also expecting in April, attempted to go into labor this past weekend.  Luckily, they were able to stop the labor and she was admitted to Hermann Memorial in downtown Houston.  They intend to keep her in the hospital until little Lillie is born, which is still hopeful for April.  Please keep both in your prayers.

November 18, 2006

To let everyone know, we had two tests done to determine if the hydronephrosis they found before birth was gone or not - and sad to say - she still has it.  The doctor told us he considers it to be a moderate case because she has it in both kidneys.  Now, so you don't have to scroll for a while to find out what this means; I will go ahead and explain it here.  To make it brief, her kidneys are not emptying out completely; therefore, they are retaining fluid and causing swelling.  The doctor says it could get better, stay the same, or get worse.  In order to see what direction it will go, she will undergo ultrasounds every six weeks for at least six months.  If we can see it is getting better, we will be able to stop the ultrasounds.  We do not know that this is not caused by some type of reflux, but instead is an obstruction of some sort.  We are going to do a special type of ultrasound in the next six weeks, to try and get more information on the obstruction.  The good news is that her kidney function has not been affected at this time.  She is on an antibiotic to make sure the fluid staying in the kidneys does not cause an infection.

Also, Russell went back to work on Monday and after a couple of rough days, Colleen and I are getting into the hang of things for just the two of us.  She is changing and growing so much on a daily basis - it is absolutely amazing.

November 7, 2006

Well, it has been a month and it has been the best month of our life.  Colleen is truly an angel and I do not know what we would do without her now.  She has changed so much in her first month of life and has changed her lives so much.  She is rolling from her stomach to her back and from side to stomach.  She holds her head up on her own now.  She eats like a little pig and we are getting better at sleeping longer at night!!  She is letting us dress her much easily now and even lets up put bows and hats on her head with ease.  We go back to the pediatric urologist for her two final tests to make sure the prenatal hydronephrosis cleared up completely on Friday, November 10.  Check out the updated Photo Gallery.

Russell has been off since birth, but goes back to work on Monday, November 13.  He is not looking forward to that at all.  I get another 6 weeks off and look forward to every second.

October 17, 2006

Hello to all!!  Well, our angel arrived on October 2, 2006 at 5:29 PM.  She weighed 6 lbs, 10 oz, and was 20" long.  She is the most amazing thing we could have asked for.  She has been to her pediatrician for a one week and two week check-up and everything is going perfectly.  She weighed 6 lbs, 15 oz today and was 20.5" long.  She is trying to hold her up already and is learning to become Miss Photogenic as you will see in the Photo Gallery!  I will continue to update the site with new news and pictures for a while, so make sure and check back frequently!

Labor went well - loved the epidural!  Glad someone invented that!!  Labor was a touch long - they began inducing at 7:30 am and she was delivered 10 hours later, but no major problems.

October 1, 2006

Well, we had our last and final check-up on Friday, September 29 and all is a go for Monday, October 2, 2006, for us to be induced early in the morning.  We had a good appointment and then spent a lot of time filling out all the great hospital paperwork.  We have to be at the hospital early Monday morning and we are expecting to stay two nights and come home Wednesday.  We are excited, nervous, scared, and anxious all at the same time!  I will update the website as soon as possible with Colleen's birth information, but bear with me if it takes several days!!

September 25, 2006

Well, I thought I would be more timely on this one!!  We had another doctor appointment today and since last week, the only thing that had changed was that Colleen had dropped lower.  At this point, if nothing happens between now and next Monday (October 2, 2006), the doctor will induce that morning.  I have a final appointment this Friday and will update the site with the latest information then.

September 24, 2006

Well, once again - I have fallen down on the job of updating our website!!  Since the last update, we have had several more doctor visits and two more showers.  There have been quite a few doctor appointments since I am on weekly visits now, so I will not break down each visit - but just cover the highlights!  We have had another ultrasound and Colleen was at 6 lbs.  We do not have another picture, because once you get this far along, it is difficult to get a good picture.  We also found out that Colleen has a minor condition called prenatal hydronephrosis.  This means that a portion of her kidneys is enlarged and retaining some fluid.  We have met with a specialist and most of the time the condition resolves itself at birth; however, to make sure of that, we have already taken the precautions and steps necessary to make sure she is well taken care at delivery.  I have started to dilate and Colleen has dropped and is in position for delivery.  The only thing we are waiting on now is for me to go into labor!!  I have started having some pain and discomfort and from what people keep telling me - that is all a good sign!

The two showers that were given to us were from the ladies at Double B Archery, Becky & Debbie.  This shower was August 26 and was great.  This shower included mostly men, who practiced shooting during the gift opening!  It was quite humorous.  The good thing is, Colleen continued to get lots of great gifts.  The hostess gift was a pink camo diaper bag that had been monogrammed with Colleen.  It was great!  Thanks again to Becky & Debbie for a great shower.

The second shower was from my co-workers at the Correctional Management Institute of Texas.  This shower was August 31.  The decorations included the Disney princesses and the cake was decorated with baby Mickey & Minnie.  Others from the Criminal Justice Center were the guests at this shower.  The host gift was diapers - roughly 750 diapers!!  Needless to say, we will not be buying diapers for a while!  Other guests continued to give gifts to help prepare Russell and I to be great parents and give Colleen lots to play with when she arrives.

Pictures from all showers and Colleen's room are now posted in the Photo Gallery.

August 18, 2006

Well, it's been a while since I have updated the site - shame on me!!  In the past month, we have had three more doctor appointments and another shower!  The appointment that was July 20 was checking my glucose level and just another standard appointment.  We did find out that my glucose level was slightly elevated, so to be on the safe side of things, the doctor has placed me on a diabetic diet.  Those of you who have known me for a while know I have a big sweet tooth and this diet is rough on me!!  I have stopped eating almost all sweet stuff and have to plan my meals and snacks out for the day to make sure I am not getting too many carbs and that type of thing.  It has been a big change for me.  Also, with this diet, I have lost a few pounds - but that is pretty common for this type of diet!

On August 2, we had a typical doctor's appointment.  He listened to Colleen's heartbeat and measured the ole' belly again.  Nothing really major happened.

On August 5, Russell's mom hosted a shower for Colleen in Jasper.  It was nice to visit with old friends who we have not seen in a while.  There were lots of great gifts and good food!  I am posting a pictures of from that day in the
Photo Gallery.

On August 15, we had an ultrasound.  The picture is in the
Photo Gallery.  We also found out that Colleen is a big baby - she already weighs 5 pounds!  She was in her 32nd week at that appointment and weighs the average size of a baby in their 34th week.  The ultrasound technician is estimating she could be as early as September 26 instead of October 6.  The doctor is not changing his thoughts just yet and wants to give it a little more time because the longer I am on the diabetic diet could slow her weight gain down some.  The next appointment is August 31, 2006.

Also, she is moving ALOT these days and my belly is going in directions we did not know it could go!  Russell and I are getting very excited and just can't wait for our bundle of joy.  Also during this time, we found out our friends
Kristin & Casey Baggett are expecting their own bundle of joy in March.  We are so excited for them!

July 18, 2006

On July 15, 2006, I had my first baby shower.  It was hosted by friends Kristin Baggett, Karen Barton, & Jenny Turner.  It was a ton of fun and we are on our way to being fully equipped for Colleen's arrival.  Check out the Photo Gallery for pictures from the shower.  I have my next appointment on July 20, 2006 and Colleen is growing so much to where I can feel and see so many movements every day.  It is such an awesome feeling and vision.

June 27, 2006

We had another doctor's appointment yesterday.  The doctor took a measurement of my belly for the first time and said everything is right on schedule.  We heard Colleen's heartbeat again and it sounded very strong.  Over the past month, I have been feeling her move around ALOT!  Russell and I can now see my stomach move when she moves, which is a really awesome sight!  I return to the doctor in three weeks for glucose testing, then start our every 2 week visits - yep, it's already getting time for that!

We have all but one piece of our nursery furniture.  Check out the
Photo Gallery for pics of her room.  It's getting so excited these days because the time just seems to by flying by so quickly now.

May 28, 2006

Well, we had our ultrasound visit on May 26, 2006 and it looks like we are having a little GIRL and her name will be Colleen Evelyn!!  Russell was predicting a little girl from the beginning, so he is really excited and already planning on spoiling her rotten!  HER heartbeat was 140 beats per minute and everything else looked good.  The doctor is still sticking with a due date of October 6 and is guessing HER birth weight to be around 7.5 pounds.

Check the
Photo Gallery too.  I have updated it with a few pictures as well!

Poll Update (May 9, 2006)
Guesses - 21

Girl:  35% (7)
Boy:  65% (13)

Twins (1):  A lady that works in the office next to me refuses to be wrong, so she has guessed I will have a set of twins - a boy AND a girl!!

April 25, 2006

We had another doctor's appointment today and it went very well.  As soon as the doctor placed the doppler on my belly, we immediately heard the baby's heartbeat.  The doctor said the heartbeat was around 126 beats per minute.  We also set up an ultrasound on May 26 to see what sex the baby is.  The doctor said it is definitely a boy or a girl - let the betting begin!!

I am going to start a poll for guessing the sex of the baby and keep it updated here, so e-mail me at
payne@thepaynesplace.com with your guesses.

April 7, 2006

We were actually able to hear the baby's heartbeat for about 3-5 seconds with the doppler this time and found out the baby does not liked to be pushed on by the doppler.  While the doctor was trying to keep up with the baby's movement and let us hear the heartbeat, we heard a thud and the baby kicked the doppler.  It was pretty funny!  The baby was also moving quite a bit, so we were not able to listen to the heartbeat long, but what we were able to hear was pretty amazing.  I have blood work done on April 25, which is to test for birth defects and at that appointment, we will set the appointment for our next ultrasound to try and see what sex the baby is.  FUN!!!

February 21, 2006

As stated on the homepage, Russell and I have recently found out we are going to be proud parents.  We had our first ultrasound on February 21, 2006.  Our due date is October 6, 2006.  Right now, we have monthly appointments to check everything and we will go back on April 7 to try to hear the heartbeat through a doppler machine.  Hopefully in May, we will get a glimpse of what sex the baby is!
