June 30, 3007 Well, the TFAA State Tournament is over and Russell got 2nd Place in the State Championship; however, he got 1st place in the Aggregate Award. Russell also set a new record for the Hunter round and now owns all three Texas field records. You can check out pictures from the State Tournament at: http://www.buffaloarchery.org/photos/59thTFAAStateOutdoor2007/index.html. He is a short break from tournaments until the NFAA National Field Championship later this month in Darrington, WA. We will let you know how he does there. June 16, 2007 Here we go again! Russell is now the 2007 NFAA Southern Sectional Outdoor Champion! I don't have any pictures from this tourney, Colleen and I stayed at home for this! Russell has the TFAA State Tournament next weekend. I will keep you updated on his progress in that tournament. May 29, 2007 Well, some of you may be getting tired of hearing, Russell WON another tourney! He is now the new North American Field Archery champion! This tournament was sponsored by the International Field Archery Association and was open competitors in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. You can check out pictures of Russell getting his medal in the Photo Gallery! April 11, 2007 Colleen and I are proud to announce that Russell is the new 2007 NFAA National Indoor Champion in the Adult Male Freestyle division! This was a huge accomplishment for Russell. He as competing against approximately 400 others in his division. This tournament brought in over 1,400 archers all together. Russell shot a PERFECT score again on the first day and dropped one X on the second day, leaving him with a score of 600 with 119Xs. There were a total of five that shot a perfect score on the first day, but two dropped more than one X on the second and then someone that dropped one X on the first day, shot a perfect score on second - leading to a 4-way shoot-off for the champion. In the first two rounds of the shoot-off, the archers shoot like they had been shooting the entire tournament, five arrows a round - scoring the arrows as you would normally. Well, one archer dropped an X on this round, so it was down to three. After the first two rounds, it went to what is called Sudden Death, where each archer shoots one arrow at a time. If that arrow is inside the X-ring and not touching the line of the X-ring, it is counted as an X; however, if the arrow is touching any part of the X-ring, it is counted as out. Well, after one arrow, another archer fell off and then it was just two. On this final round, Russell shot a perfect "pinwheel" X, while the other archer's arrow touched the X-ring - meaning RUSSELL WON!! You can see a few pictures in the Archery Pics gallery. I have contacted the photographer at the event (who took a ton of pictures from the shoot-off) to see if I can publish some of his pictures of Russell on my website. If not, I will just post the link for everyone to see and you will have to look for Russell! Russell is well on his way to achieving his goal of becoming a professional archer. March 14, 2007 A big congratulations to Russell for winning the NFAA Southern Sectional Indoor Championship this past weekend. He was competing against shooters from four other states and set the mark high! Colleen and I are super proud of him. His next major competition is the NFAA National Indoor Championship in Louisville, KY on March 31-April 1. February 28, 2007 Russell shot in the TFAA State Indoor Championship this past weekend and walked away with second place after a three-way shoot-off for first place. The call on the shoot-off was a close one and could have probably gone either way and went against Russell this time. But that's okay, he will get them again later!! As stated on Colleen's page, there was a photographer there and he got a couple of pictures of Russell, which are on the Archery Pics page. This weekend, Russell will be shooting in the NAA Indoor National tournament in College Station, Texas. I will of course keep you updated on his placement when we find out. February 17, 2007 Russell shot at the World Archery Festival in Las Vegas, NV this past weekend and shot AWESOME. A perfect score is 900 with 90 X's and Russell shot an 899 with 73 X's. He placed 26th out of 245 shooters in his division, and he beat a lot of professional shooters! The Festival had a total of over 1700 shooters. This was a huge accomplishment for Russell and we look forward to him continuing to shoot well. He has the state indoor tournament next weekend and looks really good going in. I will update you on how he does there too! Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures from Vegas. This was our first time there and I did not know the rules for picture taking. You can go to www.archerytalk.com to look at pictures from the shoot if you are interested. There have also been other indoor tournaments that Russell has shot at and he has continued to place 1st at most of these shoots. January 22, 2007 Russell shot an indoor tournament on January 20, at the BowZone in Spring, Texas and finally got that PERFECT score of 300 with 60X!! He is very excited and ready to do it again!! You can see pictures of his target in the Archery Pics photo gallery! January 9, 2007 Well, indoor season has kicked off and Russell is doing awesome again! He has shot 4 tourneys and has placed 1st in 2 of them. This last weekend he competed in a statewide match held at the Gander Mountains across the state. There were approximately 60 shooters in his division and he took home 1st place with a score of 300, 59X - one X shy of perfection! August 21, 2006 |
